Crash-Lock or a Classic Flap Box? What Changes for the Packer

In an online shop the box is handled thousands of times, so a small change in construction becomes a large change in working time.
The difference
A classic flap box (FEFCO 0201) arrives flat, and the packer has to close the bottom with tape. A crash-lock box has an automatic bottom glued at 4 points, and it forms in one smooth motion when it is opened.
What it changes for the packer
There is no bottom to tape and fewer steps at the packing station. In e-commerce this drastically reduces the working time of warehouse packers, which is why crash-lock is called a game-changer.
Measure it on your own line
Do not trust a general number, including ours. Pack a test batch of each type with the same packer and the same product, and compare the seconds per parcel and the amount of tape used.
When the classic box still makes sense
Classic FEFCO 0201 boxes are the base of many assortments and are produced in large volumes. Crash-lock pays off where the same box is assembled again and again.
Useful add-ons
- an adhesive strip closes the box without tape,
- a second adhesive strip streamlines returns,
- a tear strip lets the customer open the parcel without a knife.
